Bernadette: Bold as a Bear |
Happy New Year! This year has started out with a couple celebrations! Bernadette, our miniature schnauzer who we call Bernie, turned 3 years old on the first! She may only be 3 years old, but she's about 80 at heart, LOL! She's pretty much the definition of grouchy most of the time, especially when you interrupt her daily 9 hour naps... but she is the perfect dog for us! We did alot of research before getting a dog, because we are big nerds and are nothing if not prepared. We chose a miniature schnauzer as the breed for us because 1) they do not shed 2) they are hypoallergenic 3) they only require about 30 minutes of exercise a day and 4) they are great family dogs/good around children.
We wanted a dog that would chill on the couch with us at night and that is exactly what we got. From what I've seen all miniature schnauzers are very similar in their temperament, which is good because we are not planning to ever have another breed. Bernie has spoiled us with her cuddles and smarts, and who could resist that beard! We chose the name Bernadette when we got her because schnauzers are a German breed, so we wanted a German name. She was about 1 pound when we brought her home and was a tiny, sleepy puppy (she was also full of worms). So we looked up female German names and came across Bernadette and we liked the meaning: Bold as a Bear. We said, oh how funny because she's so small and docile... she definitely grew into her name!

On the 2nd Della turned 6 months old! It's crazy how time flies and she's already grown so much! We started adding in baby food and she has loved sweet potatoes! She's still getting the hang of how exactly to eat them... She can sit up with some assistance and will wave at you. She's sleeping through the night pretty well, If she wakes up I can just give her the pacifier and she'll go back to sleep. We had her check up on the 3rd and she's 13 pounds 11 ounces, 24 inches tall, and 16.5 inch head. I did her 6 month photos in her room, and she wore the dress I wore in my 6 month photos! I love that my mom kept these little dresses and she gets to wear them. I'll definitely be keeping them also so that they can be passed down. She did great for pictures, I just had to have Daniel assist so that she didn't fall over... we only had one face-plant and she was fine after a minute. She's a talkative little thing, babbling and doing lots of baby talk!

At the doctor's office she did good, but I think she remembered the shots from last time... whenever we would lay her back on that crinkly paper she would cry! I think she is on the verge of crawling... she would flip over on the table like she was about to crawl and rolling around playing with the paper. She's so funny!
We finished The Office on netflix for the 47th time, so Daniel started watching Star Trek and Della has been pretty interested in it too... he's going to make a trekkie out of her yet! 😂 This week I also made another little hat from the santa hat pattern and I love how it turned out! It may turn into my go-to pattern for gifts and such because its so fast and easy to make.
Mama and Daddy kept Della after church on Sunday, so we worked on the bathroom and got a few things done. They love keeping her and it's wonderful that she gets to spend time with them! She's finally warmed up to Daddy... at first she would cry when he held her! But now they are big buddies!
